RAYMOND PENTLAND
Ray Pentland is regarded by his peers as the pre-eminent hydrology expert in Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1965 with a B.Sc. (Civil Engineering) and holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Regina. Ray began his engineering career with PFRA working on construction of Gardiner Dam. On completing that assignment, he moved to the provincial civil service where he spent nearly two decades as a water management specialist with Saskatchewan Environment and later with the Saskatchewan Water Corporation.
This background prepared him well to enter private practice in 1986 as a water resource engineering consultant. As a specialist in this field his advice has been widely sought on water management projects and programs throughout Western Canada. Ray was a member of Council and President (1994-95) of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
Ray’s contributions to the engineering profession and the community have been recognized with the following awards: the APEGS McCannel Award; the ACEC-SK Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Meritorious Achievement Award; Fellowships of Engineers Canada and the CSCE; and project leader for an APEGS Exceptional Engineering/Geoscience Project Award.
