Digvir Jayas, FCSSE was honoured with Lieutenant Governor’s Award in Manitoba
Digvir Jayas is the 2023 recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in Manitoba. The award is granted by the Institute of Public Administration of Canada, Manitoba region to recognize distinctive leadership in public administration or significant contributions to the field of public administration in the province. On 27 February CSSE Past President Guy Van Uytven, FCSSE, gave a presentation to the  Macrogrid Initiative of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE) which was enthusiastically received by their international audience of power grid and utility executives.  The presentation was made upon invitation by ACORE and deals with HVDC and the Need for a North American Macro Grid.  Inter-regional HVDC links are a high priority for the US Administration as well as to the Canadian Government and the topic may be of interest to our members. In addition to being elected as President of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Soheil Asgarpour has been appointed as a Director of the Council of Canadian Academics.

Alex Meisen presented an update on Nuclear Fusion Power at the June Canadian Academy of Engineering Webinar on Nuclear Fission and Fusion energy.

Mina Hoofar has been appointed Dean of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Victoria and Elected President of the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering.

Guy Van Uytven has prepared a paper On Strengthening North American Electrical Energy Security with a View on Net-Zero Emissions that was tabled with the Federal Net Zero Advisory Body and the Council of the Federation (Canada’s Provincial and Territorial Premiers) Secretariat.
