AI for Embedded Prototyping: Tools, Techniques, and Takeaways
Friday, January 9, 2026
Speaker: Darren Beckwith Chief Technical Officer Barnacle Systems
AI-accelerated workflows are reshaping how engineers prototype with modern development kits, embedded firmware, and application software. This talk examines practical methods for using AI tools to streamline hardware selection, firmware generation, driver development, and rapid iteration across heterogeneous platforms. We’ll cover case studies demonstrating faster bring-up, improved debugging, and automated code synthesis, along with the limitations and failure modes engineers should watch for.
Attendees will leave with actionable techniques for integrating AI into their embedded and software prototyping pipelines.

The October meeting of the Edmonton Chapter of the CSSE occurred on Thursday October 16, 2025 via the Zoom platform starting at 12:45 pm Mountain Daylight Time.
Speaker: Dennis McConaghy, BSc and MSc Chemical Engineering
Presentation: Change Over 50 Years in Canadian Energy
Dennis will discuss the evolution of the Canadian hydrocarbon production industry over the last fifty years, from the mid 70s through to today, essentially the period of his career in that industry.
He will provide special emphasis on how world class production industries evolved from valued elements of the Canadian economy to being beset with political and legal obstruction , putting in doubt its capacity to even sustain its existing scale let alone grow. How did this happen? How could this have happened in Canada? Dennis will offer his analysis from the vantage point of a career that was very much at the center of that change and conflict.
