Gordon Lindsay, P.Eng.
Gordon Graduated in 1948 from McGill University with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering. After graduation he joined Shawinigan Engineering Company where he worked on the Bridge River project for what is now B.C. Hydro.
Gordon then moved to Newfoundland where he worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. He lead a team installing the Pine Tree Line, Canada’s first Early Warning Radar system installed just north of the 48th Parallel. He continued doing work for the Strategic Air Command in Labrador and Greenland.
Gordon then moved to Nova Scotia to work for Atlantic Bridge Company building fish and fiberglass plants. Five years later it was on to Brown and Root Co. working in Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, where Gordon was the Project Manger for Canada’s fist commercial Heavy Water Plant in Cape Breton.
As a consequence of merging Brown and Root and SNC, Gordon became one of the 200 owners of SNC. This eventually brought Gordon to Western Canada working as a Project Director. When SNC purchased Pentagon Construction, Gordon became the Vice President for Western Canada, following which Gordon lead the Canadian Arctic Gas Pipeline (CAGPL) project design effort. After its cancellation following the Berger Inquiry, he led a group providing fuel-oil-fired Gas Turbines in Saudi Arabia. After retiring Gordon continued to do Insurance and legal claim work for Lloyd’s of London amongst others.
Gordon has organized the Vancouver EIC technical luncheon program since the 1980’s, as it evolved from an EIC Branch to a joint CSEM/CSSE Branch. Gordon has lead and volunteered with the group refurbishing the Baden Powell hiking trail across the Vancouver North Shore Mountains. He has organized the key fund-raising events in Vancouver for the McGill Alumni Association for many years.
Gordon was awarded a Fellowship in the Engineering Institute of Canada in 1988 and received the APEGBC Presidents Professional Services award in 2007.
