Colin H. Campbell, P.Eng.
Ladies and Gentlemen it gives me great pleasure to present to you Colin Campbell.
Colin graduated from the Royal Military College with a diploma in Civil engineering in 1955 and from McGill University with a B.Sc. in Civil engineering. Masters of Engineering level courses in Structural Engineering and Transportation at the University of Calgary and Pre-Stressed Concrete Design from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paris rounded out his formal training in structural, bridge and infrastructure design.
Colin began his bridge design experience with a large girder bridge in Rangoon, Burma in 1965 followed by the multi-span Langevin Bow River Bridge in Calgary in 1968.
Colin founded C.H. Campbell consulting engineers in 1977 and in 1982 joined with David Woodall to form Campbell Woodall & Associates. For the next 20 years Colin designed and supervised many new bridges and retrofits throughout the urban centers of Alberta and at remote sites for the resource industry throughout Western Canada. Campbell Woodall was sold to A.D. Williams Inc. in 2003 and Colin continues his enthusiastic pursuit of engineering design excellence with A.D. Williams as their Calgary Senior Bridge Consultant.
While Colin’s Cicil Engineering contributions were recognized by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers (CSSE) with a fellowship and were noticeable in their own right it is Colin’s volunteer activities on behalf of the technical societies and professional engineering regulatory bodies which he belonged that bring us together to recognize Colin tonight.
Colin led the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) Council as President through its difficult years of reorganization. Additionally, Colin volunteered to be the inaugural President of the General Member Group of EIC, thus providing a “home” for all of those EIC engineers who were not attached to a specific, named, EIC Member Technical Society. The General Members Group later “morphed” into the Canadian Society for Management (CSEM) where Colin remained a Director for many years. Colin has volunteered continuously sine the 1970’s with the EIC Calgary Branch Executive now the CSEM Branch, which CSSE Members regularly attend, for informative Technical luncheons. As well for years Colin chaired the EIC Honours, Awards and Fellowship Committee.
Colin is a Professional Engineer and member of APEGGA and APEGBC in Alberta and B.C. respectively. Colin is also a Member of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers and CSEM.
Colin is a Warden in Camp 18 of the Corporation of Seven Wardens that continues the tradition of the induction of new Engineers into the profession via the Iron ring Ceremony.
