Karen Savage, P.Eng. FEC
Karen Savage graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1986 with a B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering. Karen has over 30 years of professional engineering and management experience. She is currently President of Horizon Engineering Inc. which provides geotechnical and management services. Following graduation Karen was employed as a construction manager for the erection of television towers with Vanderstar Engineering Inc. She joined SCS Consulting Engineers Ltd. In 1988 and in 1997 she became President of Horizon Engineering Inc. As President of a consulting services firm, Karen is responsible for design and consulting on a broad range of foundation, excavation, slope retention and drainage projects throughout the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley and remote areas of British Columbia. Karen undertakes feasibility and forensic assessment in her areas of expertise and acts as an expert witness in these matters.
Karen has also served her profession extensively in numerous leadership capacities with EGBC including as a Councillor, Chair of the Professional Practice Committee and as a Member of Engineers Canada’s Qualifications Board. She has also served as a Director of ACEC-BC and as a member of the Board of the Canadian Coalition of Women in Engineering, Science and Technology. Karen has for many years been an ardent advocate of women and works passionately to improve diversity in our profession and in particular, the advancement of women in STEM-related careers. Her contributions have been recognized by many nominations and awards including the EGBC Professional Service Award. Karen is a Fellow of Engineers Canada.
