Events Deferred: 2020 Board Meeting, Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet (COVID-19)

March 13, 2020

I am sure that all of you are aware of the issues that Canada is facing to control the spread of COVID-19.  As it stands right now, most health authorities are advising against discretionary travel, and face to face meetings, particularly for the demographic that includes most of our members.

With these facts in mind, the executive of the CSSE/SCIS has concluded that it is prudent to defer the 2020 Board Meeting, 2020 Annual General Meeting, and 2020 Awards Banquet, which were scheduled for May 23, 2020 in Edmonton.  Since our bylaws require us to hold our AGM before June 30, we have tentatively rescheduled these events to June 27, 2020, with the location remaining in Edmonton.

We realize that as events unfold, we may not be able to hold these events as face-to-face meetings.  If that is the case, we will hold the Board Meeting and Annual General Meeting by video and/or teleconference, and we will cancel the Awards Banquet.  If we do have to cancel the Banquet, we will do so with deep regret that we cannot honour the newly elected Fellows into our society in the manner we customarily do.  We will explore other opportunities to welcome them in a manner that recognizes their many contributions to our profession.

None of us could have forecast the situation we now find ourselves in.  I know that the society can count on you, our valued members, to see us through these unfortunate circumstances.
